We had to complete two translations, one for our Language and Literacy Narrative and the other for our Synthesis Essay. The first one is a spoken translation where we had to rework our narrative into a 3-minute presentation. The second one is the visual translation, where we had to rework a specific idea/example from our synthesis essay.

For the Spoken Translation, I went through some drafts and different ideas before settling on a recorded presentation with slides.

Rough Draft

For my translation, I’m planning on writing a new narrative with my most important points, like a spoken word version that fits the 3-minute time limit. I would also like to have slides, mostly with pictures (like of the book in my moment). I’m not too sure if I would prefer to do it “live” or do a prerecorded audio, but once I fully start working on the Full Translation Draft, I’ll have a better idea of which option fits my narrative most.

For the Visual Translation, one of my most important points was about parental engagement in academics. I urged teachers and parents to recognize that for immigrant families, this might look different than traditional ways but is just as important and could be used to the advantage of students by being treated as legitimate forms of engagement. Thus, I made a poster that conveys this message, though it targets educators more than parents since it’s a message that applies more to them.
